Maintaining your Professional Brand During the Holiday Season

As holiday parties kick into high gear, remember dressing inappropriately can change the playing field with clients and colleagues long after the holiday parties are over! Top 10 Tips for maintaining your personal and professional brand during the holiday season: Deck the halls – just not on yourself. Leave the Santa hat & antler headbands, glitter hair extensions, ornamental battery-powered necklaces & pins, shoes with bells, holiday sweaters & ties, novelty socks, plaid skirts & jackets at home! Instead, opt to be memorable for all the right reasons! One statement accessory is just the right touch! For women, if you are going to add a little bling, don’t overdo it! For men, a pocket square, cuff links, tie, or a statement watch adds just the right touch of sophistication. Daring to bare too much cleavage or skin---fatal mistake! Leave your micro-mini and plunging necklines at home!  Counterbalance bare legs with a covered-on-top look.  Showing too much cleavage can leave you isolated---while men might enjoy a little cleavage (or a lot), women definitely don’t want to look at other women’s cleavage. True story! Don’t look like Santa’s Helper – pairing a red dress with red shoes, a red bag or other [...]

What does “Holiday Attire” Really Mean?

The day after I posted my last blog about Maintaining Your Professional Brand During the Holiday Season, I received a call from one of my fav male clients in Texas. His question to me, “My wife and I have been invited to a holiday party and the invitation says, Holiday Attire. What the heck is Holiday Attire?” Many times the location can be an indicator as to what to wear. BUT don’t assume! Your best bet is to pick up the phone and call the host and ask for clarification because you don’t want to be over or under dressed. Several years ago I went to a holiday party and the invitation specifically said Cocktail Attire. One woman showed up in a racy red formal dress with a plunging neckline and long train. And yes, she had matching red lipstick and red shoes. OVERKILL! In addition, it was a business holiday party at the Chairman of the Board’s home---and she was indeed an employee of the organization. So, point being; don’t be THAT person who is wildly out of touch. Be sure to maintain your professional brand during this festive season. As the host of the party – you need to be more specific. 3 Easy Steps to Prepare for Holiday Success

By Jan Goss-Gibson, America's #1 Confidence Strategist Confidence can be fickle. One moment you are on top of the world, knowing you’ve got this then, a harsh word, an arrogant look from a superior, or a flash of a painful memory and your confidence has left the building! Would you like some practical empowerment tips so this will never happen again? Here are 3 simple, yet powerful ways to help you prepare in advance so you can hold on to your confidence! 1. Eat something in advance – When we are hungry, we act differently than when we are satisfied. Our nerves are more on edge, we can get a little cranky and certainly not be our best. Even if you are attending a dinner, eat a little snack before you go. Grab a handful of almonds, or eat a piece of fruit or a protein bar. One of the worst impressions you can make is to head straight to the food at a party. Watch for the subtle difference you feel when you are not focused on food at an event. 2. Empty your head trash – Comparison is a killer. There is only one “You” in this world. Don’t compare yourself [...]
